1 in 10 people are diagnosed with some form of clinical depression so odds are quite high that you know someone suffering from depression. There are many different types of depression ranging from clinical depression. Manic Depression, Bi-Polar and extremely severe cases that result in emotional and physical self harm.

Sufferers of depression often claim that everything is alright and may in fact appear to be completely fine, sometimes taking on the persona as the life of the party which can make spotting depression all the more difficult. There can be tell-tale signs though that you can pick up on such as:

- Excessive self-deprecating humour

- Off hand comments about death/ emotional detachment

- Excessive periods of time spent alone

- Lack of communication/ willingness to give opinion in social situations.

- Excessive consumption of alcohol/ other harmful substances.

- Apparent disregard for personal safety or health.

- Mood swings

- Listlessness/ Daydreaming (Seriously)

- Insomnia

Depression is not a ‘pop-illness/disease’. It is not something that can be shrugged off. If it’s around in any form then it’s here to stay. While it is said that depression can range from ‘Light’ to ‘Severe’ all forms of depression need to be taken equally as seriously. No-one should have to suffer themselves alone.
